What is Henna?

Henna is a natural plant-based dye made from the leaves of the henna shrub (lawsonia inermis). It’s been used for centuries across cultures to adorn the skin in celebration, protection, joy, and beauty.

The henna I use is freshly mixed and made with simple, safe ingredients: henna powder, lemon juice, sugar, and essential oils—no chemical dyes or preservatives.

Once applied, the paste rests on the surface of your skin and gradually dries. After gently removing it, your design will start as a bright orange stain and deepen to a rich reddish-brown over 1–2 days. The longer the paste stays on, the better the result.

Here’s a guide on what you can expect as your henna goes through the oxidation process:

What to Expect at the Event

  • I’ll be doing intuitive, freestyle designs—drawn by hand without stencils or templates.
  • Each design is created on the spot and usually takes just 2–3 minutes. This helps keep things flowing so as many guests as possible can enjoy the experience.
  • The paste will dry to the touch in about 15–30 minutes, but for best results, keep it on for at least 2 hours (longer is even better!).
  • Practice gentle, careful movements while the paste is drying to avoid smudging.
  • When you’re ready to remove it, do not use water—just flake it off with a dry napkin or your fingers.
