This is a quick, shareable guide you can pass along to other parents so everyone knows what to expect.

Henna is a natural plant-based stain made from dried henna leaves ground into a fine powder and mixed with water, sugar, and eucalyptus essential oil. Think of how turmeric can really stain—henna works in a similar way, just for the skin.

Drying & Staining: Designs dry to the touch in about 20–30 minutes. For the richest color, the paste should stay on at least 2–4 hours.
Removing the Paste: Skip the water. Simply brush the dried paste off with a dry paper towel so it falls into the trash.
Color Development: The stain starts bright orange and deepens to a warm brown over the next two days.
Longevity: Henna usually lasts about 1–2 weeks, fading naturally as skin exfoliates.

The big thing to know is application is quick—it’s the drying that takes longer, so plan for a little quiet time after the fun!

Tips for a Smooth Henna Party

Serve Food First
Let kids eat before henna time so no one worries about smudging designs while snacking.

Plan a Hands-Off Chill Activity
Once the henna is on, pick something where kids can keep their hands still—like a movie or storytelling session.

Protect Your Space (Optional)
Cover the floor with inexpensive canvas drop cloths or old sheets if you’d like extra peace of mind.

Quick Fix for Smudges
If paste accidentally gets on clothes, furniture, or anything else, wash the spot right away. The longer henna sits, the more it stains.
